Pierre Choukroune
I met Pierre in 1992, when I joined the Rennes tectonic reseach lab(CNRS). He was a professor there. Pierre's interests have always spanned through various scales, from detailed analysis of microstruc- tures, to plate tectonics. Many of his articles have had major impacts. Pierre has been part or leading the most conclusive tectonics campaign like FAMOUS, CYADEN or ECORS. As a team leader, he had a profound influence on the development of structural geology and tectonics in France. None of the Doctorate students and colleagues escaped his thoughtful suggestions and his unusual scientific lucidity and inspiration. Pierre's teaching style, elegant and to the point, has inspired many careers in Earth Sciences. Mine included.
